Our Teachers

Time to Shine Preschool is owned and operated by Brooke Saunders of Apex, NC.  Brooke is a 2007 graduate of North Carolina State University. She has worked with children as a preschool teacher, private tutor, full and part-time nanny, camp counselor, youth leader, and children’s church teacher.  Owning a preschool of her own has been a dream of Brooke's since she was in high school, and she feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to invest in the lives of young children through her own company.
Brooke has a strong desire to see her students achieve and begin kindergarten with a firm foundation in language arts and math.  She hopes each of her students will develop a love of learning that they will carry with them throughout their academic journeys.  Brooke aims to ensure that her students are learning and retaining information while keeping lessons fun and praising them in order to build the self-confidence they need to face the next step in their education and personal lives.
Brooke and her husband have two preschoolers of their own and they are looking forward to a third baby this fall!  Brooke is pulling double duty now as a full-time Mommy to two energetic little ones while actively maintaining the preschool business. She continues to run the business herself, with a lot of help from her wonderful teachers! She also joins in for all of the parent shows and field trips and she loves to help the teachers with their lessons and activities whenever possible.  Brooke is very pleased with the small, tight-knit, family feel of Time to Shine and she often joins in with her own little family in tow!
Kim Carr is our Lead Threes Teacher as well as our Operations Director.  She keeps everything running smoothly and will normally be the first one incoming families meet. Kim helped Brooke start Time to Shine Preschool in 2011 and she's been an integral part (and a student favorite!) ever since. She is originally from Long Island NY, where she graduated from Hofstra University.  She and her husband have four awesome kids who keep them very busy, the youngest of whom graduated from Time to Shine Preschool!  She is also actively involved in recreational sports and she coaches soccer and basketball with her coach’s license from NCYA.  Her favorite part of coaching is seeing the smiling faces of the kids when they have learned something new and are able to show it off.  Kim is also involved in Wake County Girl Scouts, where she is a Brownie Troop Leader and a trainer for new leaders.  After being a stay at home mom for a few years, she was asked to work at a local preschool in Cary.  She quickly began to love the world of education and has been teaching ever since.  She feels that teaching preschool children has been one of the most rewarding experiences that she has been privileged to be a part of.  Kim says it is a wonderful feeling to love your job!

Rae Jobe is our Lead Pre-k/Transitional K Teacher.  She was born in Ohio, but is NC bred!  Rae grew up attending Wake County public schools, including Apex High. (Go Cougars!)  She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on an NC Teaching Fellow Scholarship and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Following college, Rae lived and taught in Durham County for 10 years.  She really loved working in a diverse school with children from many different backgrounds and found that each day brought something unexpected.  She found looking back at student growth throughout the year to be rewarding and she enjoyed the challenge of meeting the needs of students across a range of academic abilities. Years later, Rae received her certification in academically gifted education and focused on instruction within that area for a few years. Rae has spent the last few years cherishing her time as a stay at home mom with her two young children, one being a graduate of Time to Shine and the other being a current student.  As a life-long learner, Rae is thrilled to work with preschoolers as she shares in their unparalleled enthusiasm for learning and their excitement for discovery!

Kati Colburn

Kati Colburn is our Art Teacher and Teacher’s Assistant. Kati is originally from Hungary.  She is a graduate of the Comenius Teacher’s Training College of Hungary, where she completed her degree in elementary education with a specialty in teaching English as a second language. She taught elementary classes in Hungary before moving to the U.S. in 2000.  Kati also earned her graphic design certificate in 2003 and is happy to share her passion for art with our preschool children.  Her goal is to expand their skill set, introduce them to various techniques and mediums, and help them express their creativity through a large variety of arts and crafts projects.  Our preschool parents have been so impressed with the projects their students do with Ms. Kati!  She joined the Time to Shine family in January of 2015. Kati and her husband have three children, the younger two of whom graduated from Time to Shine Preschool and are now thriving elementary students. Kati is happy to be part of our teaching team and she feels privileged to work with children every day!
